The seventh Corporal Work of Mercy is to bury the dead. The seventh Spiritual Work of Mercy is to pray for the living and the dead. “All who die in the Church have a right to a Church burial in consecrated
ground” with the Rite of Committal. (The Catholic Source, pg. 113).

The belief of the resurrection of the flesh is fundamental in the Catholic faith. This is
accomplished through the holy practice of burying the dead.
